Back to Santa’s Workshop

Dear Santa,

Right when I was about to start writing you this letter, our neighbor, Mr. Quincy Left, knocked on our door to ask for a cup of sugar. I quickly left to fulfill Mr. Left’s request and got right back to writing you this letter. But then I realized that I was so eager to come back to writing my letter, that I gave Mr. Left salt instead of sugar! Since I knew I had to make things right, I rushed to knock on his door and tell him that I had confused the salt and the sugar and came back to give him the right one this time. I apologized, gave him the sugar, and we both laughed about the whole thing. As I left Mr. Left’s front door I saw this beautiful Great Dane walking down the street with no owner and a loose leash, so I decided to go after it. Exactly when I was about to get ahold of the leash, the dog turned left. I hurried up to catch it. When I finally grabbed onto the leash and looked at the name tag, it read “Jasper”. I could only see the dog’s name, but no address. I knew most of the dogs around our block and could not recognize whose dog this was. I asked around to see if it belonged to anyone passing by, but nobody claimed it. I was left with no other option but to take it home and keep an eye out to anybody looking for it.

I had never had a dog before, so I had to look up how to take care of Jasper. He was white with a few black spots on his body and a nice big black spot on his right eye. Although it seemed like somebody had taken good care of Jasper, both, his right and left front paws were bleeding, so I cleaned them up and placed a bandage on them.        After two weeks of having him, I started to get quite fond of Jasper. Every morning, I left for school, Jasper would cry as he watched me walk out the door and get on the school bus. Every time I would get home from school, he would be standing right beside the door to greet me by barking and jumping on me. One morning that I left to go to school, he somehow managed to run out the door and chase down the school bus until we turned left. Luckily, my mother was close to the door and saw Jasper left when I walked out the door and followed him down the street. She was able to bring him right back into the house.

I really enjoy Jasper’s company and have gotten very attached to him. Although I would love to keep Jasper, I can’t help thinking how sad his original owner is right this second, if they really care about their dog. After placing more than a hundred flyers with Jasper’s picture and asking all the neighbors in my area, all that is left is to wait until someone reaches out asking for Jasper.

There are only a couple of days left until Christmas and my only wish is to do right by Jasper, whatever is best for him. If his caring owner is looking for him, I hope they find him.
